From Idea to AI-Powered Gifting: Why I Built GyftPro
Founder Markus Gold shares the story behind GyftPro and the decisions that shaped the AI-powered social gifting platform.
From Idea to AI-Powered Gifting: Why I Built GyftPro
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, constantly scanning the world for problems that feel obvious once you notice them. GyftPro, our online gifting app, came from one of those moments. Gift-giving is supposed to be meaningful, but for most people it’s stressful, confusing, and time-consuming. Everyone wants to give something thoughtful, but the tools we use—basic gift lists from Amazon, generic recommendations, endless scrolling—don’t actually help us understand the people we care about.
When I realized there was a real emotional gap between how people want to give and how gifting platforms currently function, the idea for GyftPro became clear. It wasn’t just about shopping; it was about connection. And surprisingly, no one had truly solved that.
The more I researched the gifting space, the more undeniable the opportunity became. The U.S. gifting market is massive, yet the biggest players have overlooked gifting anxiety entirely or rely on cookie-cutter suggestions. Meanwhile, consumer trends overwhelmingly point toward a desire for personalized products and shared experiences—proof that people want their gifts to carry meaning, not just convenience.
As an AI gifting app for family and friends, GyftPro was designed to fill that gap by bringing thoughtfulness, personalization, and human connection back into the process.
Learning to Lead by Letting Go
Building GyftPro has pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t expect. The most important lesson I’ve learned as a founder is that I simply can’t do everything myself. That’s a tough realization when you’re used to carrying the entire vision. But learning to trust others, delegate, and let people take ownership has been transformative. When you give people room to contribute and win on their own terms, the whole company becomes stronger. My approach to leadership now centers around empowering others, not controlling the outcome.
A Hard but Defining Early Decision
One of the earliest turning points came when I had to part ways with our original CTO. It wasn’t an easy decision—especially for someone with no technical experience at the time—but the role demanded a level of execution that wasn’t being met. Keeping someone in a leadership position without the required skills would have compromised everything we were trying to build.
That decision forced me to step into the technical world myself. I decided that if GyftPro was going to exist, I would have to build the MVP on my own.
Building the MVP from Scratch
Creating the first version of GyftPro meant months of 12–14 hour days, teaching myself how to code, and building an app from the ground up with ChatGPT as my main guide. Every feature, every line of logic, every screen—it was all new to me. But breaking big problems into smaller ones, staying focused on the core user need, and iterating nonstop eventually led to a functional product.
That experience permanently shaped how I approach product decisions today: start with what delivers the most value to the user, cut everything unnecessary, and move fast.
Prioritizing What Makes GyftPro Different
One of the biggest product decisions early on was choosing to focus the MVP on the social gifting experience instead of trying to compete on traditional shopping features. Most gifting apps simply add a shopping layer on top of e-commerce. We leaned away from that approach intentionally.
Instead, we prioritized:
- Event creation and planning
- Collaborative gifting with friends (Co-Gyfters)
- Personalized insights based on relationships and interests
- Making the emotional side of gifting front and center
Shopping was still part of the experience, but it wasn’t the core. The heart of GyftPro is understanding people, not just products. Prioritizing social features first helped us stay true to our purpose and build something that actually reduces gifting stress rather than adding more noise.
Measuring What Success Really Means
At the core of GyftPro, success comes down to one thing: user satisfaction. If people feel understood, supported, and confident when choosing thoughtful gifts, they’ll naturally keep using the app. The cleanest way we measure that is through repeat engagement—specifically, how often users return to create new events and manage their gifting throughout the year. When people rely on GyftPro multiple times, it’s the clearest sign that we’re making gifting easier, more thoughtful, and more meaningful.
Building a Culture of Innovation
Inside the team, my philosophy is simple: everyone has a voice, and there are no bad ideas. I genuinely want people to challenge assumptions, bring up new directions, and explore possibilities without fear of being shut down. Even if an idea doesn’t get implemented, the discussion almost always leads to something valuable. That openness keeps us adaptable and fuels the innovation GyftPro is built on.
The Bigger Vision
GyftPro isn’t just a smart gifting app. It’s an attempt to reshape how people think about gifting—moving it away from pressure, guesswork, and last-minute panic, and toward meaning, connection, and authenticity. As the market continues shifting toward personalization and experiences, our mission only becomes clearer.
We’re here to make gifting feel human again. Try GyftPro to start finding meaningful, personalized gifts for the people you care about.
